Answer: Yes, as long as the door cushion is stretched across both knobs/handles, and is covering the latch bolt, the door will be able to open (even if the lock button is turned.) -

Answer: It does tighten the door closing so it may help. I guess it depends where it’s rattling. Maybe you can experiment and put a thin cloth in the doorway to try it before ordering. -

My bedroom door rattles loudly when my neighbors above me walk around, would this keep the door snug enough to stop it from rattling when they stomp?
Answer: Probably, it fits pretty tight in my door. If there is a 1/4 inch gap this closer will tighten it up.
