After you take them off, is there any residue left over?
Answer: Most definitely. They come off too easily AND leave residue. Be extra careful using on hard or plastic surfaces. My son put one on a water bottle and it left a gooey mess when he took the label off. In fairness, they ARE clothing labels. -

Are these labels soft or plastic feeling. Trying to figure out if they would work in collars without being irritating to the skin.
Answer: They are soft with a thin layer of plastic. They did not seem to irritate my grandfathers skin. They are smooth to the touch when they are on the clothes and they are very durable. -

Has anyone used these fabric labels on plastic cups or glass bottles?
Answer: Yes...we use them on our little ones plastic baby bottles...have been on there for months thru many washings and with no problems...just wish I had better penmanship. : ) -

Is it easy to take these off (for when the clothes/coats etc get passed along)?
Answer: I don't know as I haven't tried to do so yet. My guess, though, would be no, it wouldn't be easy to take off. -

Do they work well on socks?
Answer: Did not try on socks but did on everything else... Shirts, shorts, shoes, towels, flip flops...worked for all of that. -

What permanent markers seem to work best on these? I used ultra fine point Sharpies and they smeared (even after drying 12-24 hrs).
Answer: I have not experienced this problem using the ultra fine Sharpies. Try using a rag or paper towel to apply pressure so that the oils from your hands don't come in contact with the ink. I always wash my hands before dealing with this sort of thing. -
Question:
Can these be used with washable markers? Looking for the ability to change a label after washing without putting on a new label.
Answer: I’m not sure. I’ve only used them with a sharpie. Maybe you can put another label over the old one. The labels stay on very well. -

Is it possible to print on these? I want to make cute labels for her...
Answer: Not sure, but the label surface does not look like it would retain the ink. Instructions say to use a permanent marker and allow label to set for 24hr before applying. -

How well do these withstand industrial strength washers and dryers?
Answer: I don't know how well they would hold up in industrial strength washers and dryers, but they held up well in my washer and dryer at home. I definitely recommend for labeling kids clothing. -

Will this stick on a plastic water bottle?
Answer: I would think so. However, I have just marked plastic bottles directly with a Sharpie marker without a label.
